“It’s never a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don’t really know.” Agree or disagree?
I’m going to have to say that I disagree with that statement.
When you discuss religion or politics with people that you do know, you bring with you into the discussion everything you know about that person. Past experiences with them and things like that can affect the way that you judge their statements.
But when you don’t know someone, the only things that affect the way that you judge the statements are your own opinions and experiences, and the statements themselves. You can get a fresh perspective that isn’t changed by the way that you view that person.
If I wasn’t a Christian, and someone I knew well tried to tell me about God, I might find it difficult to believe what they were saying, because I had seen all of their past mistakes and actions. But if it was someone I didn’t know, their past wouldn’t cloud my perception.
I’m pretty sure that made no sense whatsoever. This is why I shouldn’t do these late at night.
